RALEIGH, N.C. – Patchy fog may blanket stretches of I-40 and US-1 early Saturday morning, reducing visibility for drivers in Wake County. Low-lying fog could develop after 5 a.m., with the National Weather Service urging motorists to slow down and keep headlights on until conditions improve.

According to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh, Saturday’s fog should lift by midmorning, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and a high near 88 degrees. Light east winds will help break up haze, but heat could linger into the afternoon, creating uncomfortable travel for anyone outdoors.

Sunday looks slightly cooler, with highs near 84 under mostly sunny skies. Northeast winds around 7 mph will bring drier air, making outdoor activities safer than Saturday. Nights will feel mild, with lows in the low 60s, though patchy fog could return before sunrise.

Monday stays warm but comfortable, with partly sunny skies and highs around 84. By Tuesday, highs climb near 87, keeping conditions hot for late September. The bigger shift arrives midweek when showers develop. Wednesday carries a 30% chance of rain, increasing to 50% by Friday, marking the first real taste of fall weather across central North Carolina.

Residents should stay alert for fog-related driving hazards in the early mornings through Tuesday, especially along major highways. The transition to cooler, wetter weather later in the week may also affect evening commutes and outdoor events.

Warnings may be updated as rainfall chances increase midweek.
