North Carolina – The Crystal Coast wakes to a damp, gray morning as fog and light drizzle blanket Morehead City and Newport. Temperatures hold near 43°F, with calm winds and visibility dipping under a mile at times—making for a slow, slick start across U.S. 70 and local coastal roads.
The National Weather Service in Morehead City reports a 20–50% chance of rain and drizzle through midday, tapering by early afternoon. Though accumulations will be light—less than a tenth of an inch—low visibility and wet pavement could cause delays, especially near bridges and marshy stretches from Beaufort to Havelock.
Clouds linger through the day, but skies begin clearing by evening with temperatures rising into the upper 40s to mid-50s. Sunday will bring a break in the gray, offering mostly sunny skies and highs near 55°F, while Monday introduces another 50% rain chance as a weak front slides through eastern North Carolina.
Drivers should allow extra travel time through late morning, keeping headlights on in fog and watching for slick intersections. The moisture and mild air will fade by Tuesday as sunshine and cooler breezes return—highs near 48°F, lows dipping into the 20s by Tuesday night.
While no winter threats are expected this weekend, meteorologists say the broader eastern U.S. pattern could shift colder by Dec. 11–17, signaling the season’s next big temperature drop for the Carolinas.
