Morehead City, NC – A stretch of calm weather will end Monday as a multi-threat coastal system develops along the North Carolina coast, bringing periods of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding through midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City.

Forecasters say several low-pressure systems will track near the coastline, producing gusty onshore winds — particularly for marine and coastal zones including the Outer Banks. The strongest winds are expected to occur between Tuesday and Wednesday, with the potential for downed tree branches and isolated power outages in exposed areas.

The NWS impact outlook highlights moderate risks for coastal flooding and marine hazards, as well as minor flooding in low-lying areas vulnerable to high tides. Heavy rainfall may also cause localized ponding on roads and reduced visibility at times.

Residents along the coast are urged to secure outdoor decorations and Halloween displays that could be blown around by gusty winds. While the system will bring unsettled weather through midweek, forecasters emphasize that Halloween night currently looks dry for most of eastern North Carolina.

None of the upcoming coastal lows are associated with Hurricane Melissa, and no tropical development is expected from this pattern.

Temperatures will remain mild, with daytime highs in the mid-60s and overnight lows in the 50s along the coast.
