WILMINGTON, N.C. – Residents near the Cape Fear River should prepare for minor coastal flooding early Saturday as high tides push water into low-lying areas. The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, with water levels expected to rise up to a half-foot above ground in the most flood-prone zones.

The advisory affects downtown Wilmington, including Battleship Road, USS North Carolina Road, and areas near Water Street, where minor flooding could reach a quarter to a half-foot deep. Drivers are urged to avoid flood-prone roads during high tide, as even shallow water can cause vehicle damage or loss of control. Those living near the river should move vehicles to higher ground and use caution through the midmorning hours.

After tides recede, southeastern North Carolina will enjoy a calm, sun-filled weekend. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s both Saturday and Sunday, with light southwest winds. A weak front may bring an isolated shower Sunday night, but dry, clear conditions quickly return for Monday and much of next week.

By early next week, sunshine dominates with highs in the low 70s and cool, crisp nights in the 50s. It’s an ideal setup for outdoor plans, from fall festivals to waterfront walks. The pleasant pattern continues through midweek, giving residents a welcome stretch of beautiful, dry October weather.
