Raleigh, NC – A light wintry mix could develop across portions of central and northern North Carolina late Thursday night into early Friday morning, mainly along and north of the I-85 and I-95 corridors, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

Forecasters say up to one inch of snow is possible in areas north of Greensboro, Durham, and Roxboro, before transitioning to rain Friday morning. Trace amounts of freezing rain may also occur, though significant ice accumulation is not expected.

The timing of the light snow and mix will coincide with the Friday morning commute (3 a.m.–9 a.m.), which could result in slick conditions on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads. While widespread impacts are not anticipated, isolated black ice may form again late Friday night as temperatures fall below freezing.

Drivers traveling along I-85 or I-95 are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and check local road conditions before heading out.
