Charlotte, NC — Warm, dry spring conditions combined with gusty winds are increasing fire danger across western and Piedmont North Carolina this week. The National Weather Service has issued a fire danger alert for the Charlotte area through Wednesday evening and again Thursday, with breezy weather and low humidity intensifying wildfire risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, northwest winds up to 25 mph and low relative humidity will continue through Thursday. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Officials advise residents to avoid open flames, properly extinguish smoking materials, and secure trailer chains to prevent sparks near dry roadside grass—especially along I-77 and U.S. 74.
Charlotte will remain dry and sunny Thursday with a high near 68°F, followed by a clear night dropping to around 49°F. Winds may taper slightly but still pose risk through evening hours.
Looking Ahead:
- Friday: Mostly sunny and warmer, high near 77°F
- Saturday: Increasing clouds, high near 78°F with a 30% chance of evening showers
- Sunday: Cloudy with scattered showers, high near 77°F
- Monday: Isolated thunderstorms possible, highs in the lower 80s
