Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh is warning residents to prepare for a potential wintry mix Friday morning, mainly along and north of Interstate 85.
According to the Weather Service, a developing system could bring light snow or freezing rain to portions of the Piedmont and northern counties early Friday, December 5. Current projections show a 20–40% chance of at least 0.1 inch of ice in areas including Greensboro, Durham, and Roxboro, with a lower chance for snow accumulation near the Virginia border.
Forecasters stress that it’s still too early to determine exact amounts or impacts but encourage residents to monitor updates through Thursday as the system approaches. Even light icing could lead to slick bridges and travel delays during the morning commute.
Motorists traveling through the I-85 corridor Friday should allow extra travel time and use caution if temperatures dip near freezing overnight.
