Morehead City, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina will see another hot day Wednesday, September 24, with highs reaching into the low 90s inland and mid 80s along the coast. According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, fog that developed early this morning is expected to lift, giving way to clear skies and rising temperatures.

Forecasters noted a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms forming along the afternoon seabreeze. While rain chances remain low, any storms that do develop could bring heavy downpours to coastal communities.

The heat will be most intense inland, with locations such as Greenville and Kinston reaching 90 to 91 degrees, while coastal spots including Morehead City and the Outer Banks will hold closer to 83 to 86 degrees.

In addition, beachgoers should be aware of rip current risks. The weather service reported a moderate risk of rip currents for Duck, Cape Lookout, and Onslow County beaches, while conditions remain at a low risk from Shackleford Banks to Bogue Inlet.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and remain alert for any sudden thunderstorms this afternoon.
