Raleigh, North Carolina – Scorching heat and pop-up thunderstorms could disrupt weekend plans across central North Carolina starting Saturday afternoon, with real-feel temps pushing 100°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 2 p.m. Saturday, following mostly sunny skies and a high near 95°F. The heat index may top 100°F across Wake, Durham, and Orange counties, posing risks for heat exhaustion and limited outdoor activity windows. Drivers should watch for slick spots on I-40 and U.S. Route 1 where rain hits.

The pattern repeats Sunday with storm chances again rising after 2 p.m., especially along the Triangle corridor. Roads could see brief ponding during heavier bursts, and lightning could disrupt afternoon sports or outdoor events.

Humidity remains high, and overnight lows stick in the mid-70s—offering little relief through the weekend. Monday begins mostly sunny and dry, but storm chances return by Tuesday and continue into midweek, making July’s first days unsettled.

Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect for Saturday across central North Carolina, but no widespread severe weather is expected.
