Charlotte, North Carolina – Air temperatures near 100° and heat index values pushing 105° will blanket Charlotte by midday Friday, July 25, triggering dangerous heat conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect for the Piedmont and foothills of western North Carolina and northeast Georgia through Tuesday. A Heat Advisory may be issued for areas, including Charlotte and surrounding I-85 corridors, where heat index values exceed 105° in the afternoon hours.

Drivers and outdoor workers should use extreme caution from noon to 6 p.m. daily. Hydrate frequently, avoid strenuous activities, and check vehicles for children and pets. Peak heat is expected Saturday and Sunday, with air temperatures reaching 101° in Charlotte on Sunday.

Roadways such as I-77, I-85, and US-74 may see heat-related slowdowns or delays from emergency crews responding to heat exhaustion or vehicle breakdowns.

While overnight lows will stay in the upper 70s, there’s little nighttime relief. Calm winds and high humidity will increase stress on the elderly and those without access to air conditioning. No rain is expected to cool conditions through the weekend.
