Raleigh, NC – A Heat Advisory remains in effect for much of central North Carolina, including Raleigh, Durham, and Greensboro, until 8 p.m. Thursday evening. Dangerous heat combined with high humidity is expected to make temperatures feel much hotter than actual readings. At the same time, isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, with a few strong storms potentially producing damaging wind gusts.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions will remain hot and humid across the region, making it essential for residents to stay hydrated, avoid excessive outdoor activities, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Storms could be most concentrated in the northern Piedmont and Coastal Plain areas, where there is a Level 1 risk for severe weather. Some of these storms may become strong to severe, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.

In Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding areas, the heat index could surpass 100°F, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Drivers should stay alert to the possibility of flash flooding or downed trees in some storm-affected areas.

The Heat Advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m., with an increased risk of more thunderstorms as temperatures linger in the 90s throughout the afternoon.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sun exposure, and stay indoors during the peak heat of the day.
