Wilmington, NC – Coastal North Carolina residents and beachgoers are being advised to exercise caution today as hazardous surf conditions and minor flooding risks continue, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington.

The agency reports that while Sunday will be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s inland and low 80s along the coast, dangerous rip currents are expected along east-facing beaches. Conditions are most hazardous in Pender, New Hanover, and Georgetown Counties, with the potential for minor tidal flooding during the afternoon high tide.

According to the NWS, most areas will stay dry through the day. However, a few coastal showers could develop late tonight, particularly in southeastern North Carolina. Overnight lows are forecast to dip into the low 60s inland and mid- to upper-60s along the coast.

The NWS is urging swimmers and surfers to remain aware of the rip current threat. Visitors to local beaches should only enter the water near lifeguard stations and avoid swimming in areas with posted hazard warnings.

Sunday’s surf advisory follows a week of changing coastal conditions as tides and wind patterns increase risks for swimmers. The public is encouraged to check the latest forecasts and safety updates at weather.gov/ilm before heading to the shoreline.
