Wilmington, N.C. – Residents across southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina should brace for a chilly start to the weekend as a Frost Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Saturday. Overnight lows dipping into the mid-30s could damage sensitive outdoor plants, especially in inland areas.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, temperatures as low as 36 degrees are expected across inland Pender County, North Carolina, and Marlboro County, South Carolina. The advisory began Friday afternoon and will remain active until mid-morning Saturday, when temperatures are expected to rise above freezing thresholds.
Gardeners and homeowners are urged to cover or bring in tender plants tonight. Even light frost can kill unprotected vegetation, particularly in open or low-lying areas where cold air tends to settle.
The chill marks one of the first widespread frost events of the fall season for the coastal Carolinas. While Saturday afternoon should bring some warming, another cold morning could follow early next week if skies remain clear.
Warnings remain in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday.
