Charlotte, NC – A chilly start to Sunday is expected across much of western North Carolina as temperatures dip near freezing, prompting a Frost Advisory for several counties including Mecklenburg, Gaston, and Cabarrus.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until 10 a.m. EDT Sunday, with overnight lows expected to fall as low as 32°F to 33°F. Areas at risk include Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord, and surrounding communities in the Piedmont and foothill regions.

The drop in temperatures could lead to frost formation, potentially damaging or killing sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Officials urge residents to take precautions now by covering or bringing in vulnerable plants and flowers.

This unseasonable cold snap follows a stretch of milder spring temperatures, with frost advisories uncommon this late in April across the region. Gardeners and farmers should monitor local conditions closely, especially in rural or low-lying areas where temperatures may fall fastest.

The advisory also covers nearby counties such as Catawba, Rowan, Cleveland, Lincoln, and Alexander. Residents across the affected areas should remain alert and prepare for colder-than-usual conditions through early Sunday morning.
