Asheville, NC – Freezing rain is creating hazardous conditions across western North Carolina, with additional ice accumulations of up to a quarter-inch expected through early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday for several counties, including Yancey, Mitchell, Buncombe, Henderson, and surrounding mountain regions.

Roads, bridges, and sidewalks may become treacherous as ice accumulates, potentially impacting both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Power outages are also possible due to ice buildup on trees and power lines.

Residents are urged to drive with caution, reduce speed, and allow extra time for travel. Those in affected areas should also prepare for potential outages by charging devices and keeping flashlights and blankets handy.

For up-to-date road conditions, residents can call 511 for state travel updates.
