North Carolina – A Freeze Warning is in effect for inland Pender County from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop to around 32 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, sub-freezing conditions may develop during the early morning hours, creating a risk for frost and freeze impacts across the area.

The warning specifically includes inland portions of Pender County, including the city of Burgaw.

Forecasters say temperatures near or below freezing could damage or kill sensitive vegetation, including crops and outdoor plants. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be at risk.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including covering or bringing in plants and protecting exposed pipes ahead of the overnight cold.

Freeze conditions are expected to end shortly after sunrise as temperatures begin to rise later Thursday morning.
