CHARLOTTE, NC – A calm start to the week gives way to wet roads and foggy skies as rain spreads across the Charlotte metro later today. Drivers should prepare for slick pavement and reduced visibility from late afternoon through early Tuesday, especially along I-77, I-85, and Highway 74.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg say rain will intensify after sunset, lasting through the early morning hours of Tuesday. Most areas can expect a half to three-quarters of an inch, with heavier pockets possible east of the city. The chance of rain is 90%, and patchy fog may form where the heaviest showers pass.
By Tuesday afternoon, sunshine returns briefly, with a high near 50°F and clearing skies. Wednesday brings sunny, crisp air—a comfortable pause before another rain chance builds Friday, signaling the next system sliding in from the west. Temperatures hold steady through the week, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and lows near freezing by midweek.
Residents should keep umbrellas and headlights handy and allow extra time for evening commutes. Low clouds and drizzle could cause flight delays at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, especially before dawn Tuesday.
Looking ahead, Friday brings a 70–80% chance of renewed rain, part of a wetter pattern taking shape for the first weekend of December.
