Raleigh, N.C. – Urban areas across the northwest Piedmont, including Greensboro and Winston-Salem, face a heightened risk of flash flooding through late Tuesday as heavy, slow-moving storms blanket central and northern North Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Marginal to Slight Risk (Levels 1–2 of 4) remains in effect until early Wednesday for the northern Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain, where thunderstorms are expected to repeatedly track over the same areas. These training storms could produce isolated to scattered flash flooding, particularly in low-lying zones and areas with poor drainage.

Cities like Durham, Roxboro, and Rocky Mount could also see localized flooding as rainfall rates increase this evening. Travel delays are likely on major corridors including I-40, I-85, and US-421. Emergency managers advise avoiding flooded roads, charging devices, and securing outdoor items vulnerable to runoff or washout.

The greatest flash flood threat remains in urban Triad zones, where pavement and stormwater infrastructure may be overwhelmed.

Flash flood advisories remain active through at least midnight, and additional alerts could be issued if rainfall intensifies.
