Charlotte, NC – A prolonged period of heavy rainfall will begin tonight, raising concerns of localized flooding across Piedmont and western North Carolina. Areas including Charlotte, Gastonia, and Concord may face nuisance to minor flooding as showers intensify overnight into Tuesday. This weather alert, which stretches until Tuesday morning, highlights the urgent need for local residents to stay cautious on roads and check their drainage systems.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest rainfall is expected by early Tuesday, with up to an inch or more possible in some areas. Flash flooding is not anticipated, but minor flooding, especially in low-lying areas, could disrupt daily activities. Roadways like I-85 and U.S. 321 should be monitored for ponding water or delays.
This unsettled weather will continue through much of the week. On Monday and Tuesday, the rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas. Localized flooding is most likely in areas with poor drainage. Drivers are advised to avoid non-essential travel during the peak rainfall periods. Prepare for wet conditions and bring an umbrella if you’re heading out to avoid getting soaked.
The forecast will start to improve by Wednesday as drier conditions settle in. A high near 80°F is expected by midweek, signaling a brief respite from the wet conditions.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will still be quite damp, with showers expected throughout the day and a chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon. After that, Wednesday through Friday will offer mostly sunny skies with warmer temperatures reaching the mid-80s.
Stay tuned for any new alerts, and ensure your property is ready for possible flash flooding, especially in areas near creeks or streams. More weather updates will follow as conditions evolve.
