Raleigh, NC – Spring has arrived in North Carolina, but so have dry conditions and elevated fire risks. Raleigh and surrounding counties are under an increased fire danger warning through Wednesday evening as gusty winds and low humidity create the perfect storm for potential wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, dry fuels, relative humidity dipping to 20–30 percent, and wind gusts peaking between 20 to 30 mph will combine to elevate the fire threat today. The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on all open burning until further notice, and burn permits have been canceled. Residents are urged to refrain from outdoor burning and to avoid activities that may spark a fire, including grilling or using fire pits.

The fire danger primarily affects central North Carolina, including Wake, Johnston, Harnett, Cumberland, and surrounding counties. No rain is expected in the near term, further increasing risk across the region. Conditions will ease slightly by Thursday but remain dry and breezy.
