Raleigh, NC – Central North Carolina is set to face strong thunderstorms and damaging winds on Sunday, with gusts expected to exceed 60 mph across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a line of thunderstorms will move through central North Carolina from the Triad to the coastal plain counties between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday. Wind gusts over 40 mph may occur even outside of thunderstorms, increasing the risk of falling trees and power outages.
The most severe conditions are expected between 8 and 10 a.m. in Greensboro and Wadesboro, from 10 a.m. to noon in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, and between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. along the I-95 corridor and coastal plains.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and have a safety plan in place. Power outages and hazardous travel conditions are possible, and the NWS recommends securing outdoor objects and being prepared to seek shelter if needed.
