RALEIGH, N.C. – Travelers heading into Labor Day will find some of the most favorable weather of the summer across central North Carolina. Drivers along I-40 and surrounding routes can expect dry pavement, clear skies, and cool air through the holiday. Outdoor plans and family gatherings should have little interruption.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, sunny skies will dominate Monday with a high near 80 degrees. Northeast winds between 6 and 9 mph will provide mild, comfortable conditions, especially compared with the recent heat. Overnight lows drop to the upper 50s, giving residents the season’s first hint of fall.

Clear weather continues Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs rising into the lower 80s. The stretch of sunshine offers ideal travel and school return conditions, as thousands of families move across the Triangle for the holiday. By late Thursday, clouds and a 30% chance of showers begin creeping into the region.

For Raleigh, Cary, and Durham, the upcoming week offers a much-needed break from storm risks and summer heat. Local officials urge residents to use the clear spell for outdoor maintenance, late-season travel, or community events before rain chances return.

Warm afternoons and cool nights will stay in place through Friday, making for some of the most comfortable days of September. The first weather shift arrives late week as scattered rain may develop Thursday night into Friday.

Conditions remain stable through the holiday, but residents should watch for updates by Thursday as rain could affect late-weekend plans.
