Wilmington, N.C. – Drivers in coastal North Carolina should prepare for minor flooding today as tides rise and storms build again Tuesday evening. Low-lying roads near Wilmington, including stretches of U.S. 17 and River Road, could see brief water coverage during this afternoon’s high tide.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. Monday. Forecasters expect nuisance flooding around downtown Wilmington’s Riverwalk and areas near Wrightsville Beach. A few thunderstorms may also develop late tonight and again Tuesday evening, bringing brief downpours and lightning hazards.
Tuesday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 87, but storm chances increase after sunset. Travelers on I-40 and U.S. 74 should watch for wet pavement and brief visibility issues. Conditions improve by Wednesday, with clear skies and highs in the mid-80s.
