North Carolina residents should prepare for tidal flooding today as a Coastal Flood Advisory takes effect in New Hanover County. The National Weather Service warns flooding is possible along the Cape Fear River from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 1.

According to the NWS, up to one half foot of inundation is expected in low-lying areas near Wilmington. Portions of Battleship Road and U.S. North Carolina Road may see minor flooding, along with sections of downtown Wilmington near the riverfront. Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid water-covered roadways.

Flood-prone property owners are advised to take precautions this afternoon. Residents should stay alert as additional flooding risks remain possible during evening high tides through the weekend.

Looking ahead, the fall forecast brings more stable weather. Thursday will be sunny, with highs near 75 and northeast winds at 10 mph. Friday continues mostly sunny, reaching 78 degrees. Saturday will be warm at 79 degrees with clear skies. Sunday stays mild with highs near 81. By Monday, expect sunshine and highs in the lower 80s.

The first weekend of October looks favorable for outdoor events and early Halloween decorating. However, anyone near coastal waterways should remain mindful of high tide cycles.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor conditions at weather.gov and avoid driving around barricades.
