WILMINGTON, N.C. – Tidal waters are creeping into low-lying streets again today along the Cape Fear River, where a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Motorists should avoid flooded routes, especially USS North Carolina Road, Battleship Road, and Water Street near downtown.
Officials urge caution for anyone traveling along U.S. 17 and other riverside routes through early evening as high tide pushes minor flooding into storm drains. Even shallow water can hide debris or pavement damage. Drivers are advised not to drive around barricades and to allow extra time for evening commutes.
By Thursday morning, drier air and light winds will sweep across southeast North Carolina, bringing a stretch of clear, pleasant fall weather through the weekend. Temperatures will hover near 70°F to start Friday and climb toward the low 70s by Saturday, ideal for outdoor plans and fall festivals.
Beach communities from Wrightsville to Carolina Beach will see calmer surf and mild breezes through Sunday. While mornings will start cool — in the mid-40s inland — daytime sunshine will make conditions nearly perfect for pumpkin patch visits or waterfront strolls.
Heading into early next week, highs stay in the low 70s with increasing clouds by Sunday night. The extended forecast shows no major rain or storm systems, giving the Cape Fear region a bright, comfortable lead-up to late October events and Halloween decorating.
