WILMINGTON, N.C. – Fall mornings are starting with a coastal challenge along the Cape Fear River, but brighter, calmer days lie ahead. The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. Friday, warning of minor flooding in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
Residents along Battleship Road, Water Street, and low-lying parts of downtown should allow extra travel time early Friday. Tides could rise up to half a foot above ground level during the morning high tide cycle. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through standing water, as depth can vary even along familiar routes. The advisory also affects areas from downtown Wilmington southward along the lower Cape Fear River.
Beyond the early-morning flooding concern, southeastern North Carolina heads into an exceptional stretch of sunny, mild fall weather. Highs will reach the upper 60s Friday and climb to near 78°F by Sunday, with light winds and low humidity. Saturday brings the best outdoor conditions — ideal for coastal walks, pumpkin patch trips, or local fall festivals.
A slight chance of showers returns late Sunday night as a weak front moves through, but no widespread rain is expected. Sunshine dominates again Monday and Tuesday with highs in the lower 70s.
For now, Wilmington enjoys a classic October weekend: a touch of high-tide trouble early, then bright skies and comfortable warmth straight through the start of next week.
