WILMINGTON, N.C. – A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for the Wilmington area through 7 p.m. Tuesday as high tides and brisk onshore winds bring minor flooding to low-lying areas near the Cape Fear River and tidal inlets. Once the water recedes, southeastern North Carolina will transition into a stretch of classic Fall sunshine and cool, calm weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, up to a half-foot of water above ground level may occur near shorelines, particularly downtown near Water Street and the USS North Carolina. Flooding of storm drains and low-lying parking areas is possible around the afternoon high tide. Residents should avoid driving through water-covered roads and allow extra time for coastal commutes.

By Wednesday, high pressure builds in, bringing clear skies, low humidity, and mild temperatures through the end of the week. Winds will ease from the north at 10 mph, and highs will hover near 76°F with overnight lows in the 50s.

The dry, stable weather pattern continues into the weekend with sunny afternoons and cool mornings ideal for outdoor plans, travel, or fall events across New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. Temperatures stay near normal for mid-October, and no additional coastal flooding or rainfall is expected once the advisory expires.

After Tuesday’s brief coastal impacts, Wilmington will settle into a comfortable, dry stretch of Fall weather — perfect for beach walks, patio dining, and leaf-viewing drives inland.
