Charlotte, N.C. – Drivers in Charlotte could see slick roads and low visibility on I-85 and I-77 as heavy rain and patchy fog linger through Tuesday night. The unsettled start to the week will challenge morning commutes and evening travel across much of Mecklenburg County.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and a possible thunderstorm remain likely Monday, with rain continuing Monday night into Tuesday. Northeast winds up to 10 mph, with gusts near 20 mph, may also complicate driving conditions. Rain totals could reach half an inch, especially in thunderstorms, raising concerns about ponding on local streets and highways.

Residents across Charlotte and surrounding suburbs should allow extra travel time, use headlights in fog, and avoid low-lying roads where water collects. Morning bus routes and school drop-offs may see delays, particularly if fog develops after sunrise. Power outages are possible in spots where thunderstorms bring stronger wind gusts.

Conditions improve Wednesday, October 1, when fall-like sunshine arrives and highs climb into the upper 70s. By midweek, drier air will take hold, offering a break from rain-soaked commutes and ushering in more stable October weather.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring updates for any extended rainfall or isolated thunderstorm threats before clearer skies settle in.
