Wilmington, NC – Residents across southeastern North Carolina will face continued below-normal temperatures as meteorological winter begins with a frosty night ahead. Lows are forecast to dip into the upper 20s inland and the low 30s along the coast tonight, posing risks for travelers and unprotected outdoor items.
According to the National Weather Service, sunny skies and calm winds are expected today, with highs near 56 degrees. Tonight, mostly clear skies will lead to a steep temperature drop. Drivers, particularly on U.S. 17 and coastal routes, are advised to remain alert for potential frost formation overnight, which could impact road conditions.
Monday will see cooler daytime highs near 49 degrees, with winds increasing slightly. Tuesday morning is expected to bring the coldest temperatures of the week, with inland lows plummeting to the teens and coastal areas remaining in the mid-20s. Residents are urged to protect exposed pipes and ensure pets and plants are safely sheltered during these freezing nights.
The extended forecast indicates gradual warming toward Thursday, with highs reaching 63 degrees by the end of the workweek. Despite the cold, dry conditions will prevail, offering clear skies and plenty of sunshine throughout the week.
