New Bern, North Carolina – A stretch of steamy afternoons across Eastern North Carolina will give way to a surge of midweek storms and soaking rain, with Wednesday shaping up as the most impactful day for widespread downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Morehead City, highs near 92°F through Tuesday will be accompanied by isolated to scattered thunderstorms. By Wednesday, rain chances jump to 80% as a stalled front brings cooler temps and the potential for heavy rainfall across Craven, Carteret, and Onslow counties.

Tuesday will turn breezy ahead of the front, and Wednesday’s high will dip to 86°F in New Bern and nearby towns. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially where storms repeatedly pass over the same spots.

Motorists should watch for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways, particularly along U.S. Route 70 and NC Highway 24. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items before Tuesday night and stay alert for potential flood advisories.

Sunshine and typical summer conditions are expected to return Friday and continue into the weekend.
