Raleigh, North Carolina – Warm, dry conditions combined with spotty thunderstorms are creating a split risk across North Carolina today, with fire danger persisting even as isolated storms develop in southern counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, most areas north of Interstate 40 will stay dry through the evening, while isolated to scattered showers and storms develop across the southern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain. Rain coverage will remain limited, meaning many communities will see little to no measurable rainfall despite nearby storm activity.

High temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 80s statewide, running 10 to 15 degrees above normal for early April. Cities including Fayetteville, Southern Pines, and Goldsboro have the best chance to see brief downpours or lightning, while Raleigh, Durham, and areas north may only see passing clouds.

The bigger concern remains fire risk. A statewide burn ban continues, and all outdoor burning permits are suspended until further notice. Dry fuels and warm temperatures could allow fires to spread quickly, even with isolated rainfall nearby.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure ignition sources, and remain alert for sudden weather changes if storms develop nearby. Conditions remain warm into the evening, with additional updates possible if storm coverage expands.
