Raleigh, North Carolina – Chilly air is holding firm across central North Carolina today, with another round of freezing temperatures set to impact homes, gardens, and early Thursday travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, morning clouds will give way to afternoon sunshine, with highs reaching the upper 40s to low 50s across the Piedmont. Raleigh is expected to top out near 50°F, while Greensboro stays closer to 47°F and Fayetteville reaches around 52°F.
Despite the sunshine, temperatures remain below normal for mid-March, and the bigger concern arrives overnight. Lows will drop to around 30°F in Greensboro, 31°F in Raleigh, and near 32°F in Fayetteville by early Thursday morning.
These conditions could lead to patchy frost and isolated black ice on bridges and overpasses, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Gardeners and homeowners are urged to protect sensitive plants and bring pets indoors.
Winds remain light, which may allow temperatures to fall quickly after sunset, increasing freeze impacts across the region.
A gradual warming trend is expected later this week, but until then, residents should prepare for cold mornings and protect against frost damage. Additional advisories may be issued if freezing conditions persist.
