Raleigh, North Carolina – Fire danger will ramp up quickly across central North Carolina by late Tuesday morning as gusty winds and dry air create conditions favorable for rapid wildfire spread.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, an Increased Fire Danger statement is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday across central parts of the state. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph while relative humidity drops below 40 percent, a combination that allows fires to ignite and spread quickly.

The threat spans cities including Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and surrounding communities, with the strongest winds expected across the northern Piedmont. Dry vegetation and recent lack of rainfall further increase the risk, especially in open and wooded areas.

A statewide burn ban remains in effect for all 100 counties, with all open burning prohibited until further notice. Officials warn that even small sparks—from equipment, cigarettes, or debris—could start fast-moving fires under these conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning, secure loose items that could spark, and report smoke or fire immediately. Outdoor activities involving flames or heat sources should be postponed.

The elevated fire risk will ease after sunset Tuesday, but additional advisories could follow if dry and windy conditions persist into midweek.
