Blacksburg, Va. – Storm chances will continue across Virginia into early next week, bringing the potential for localized flooding and hazardous travel. Roads in southwest and central parts of the state could be slick each afternoon as scattered thunderstorms develop through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected beginning Friday and lasting through midweek. The heaviest downpours may produce up to an inch of rain at a time, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

In southwest Virginia, including Roanoke, Wytheville, and Blacksburg, rainfall may reduce visibility during the evening commute. Thunderstorms could also impact highways such as I-81 and Route 460, with ponding water making travel hazardous. Central Virginia, including Lynchburg and Farmville, faces similar risks from slow-moving storms.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, avoid water-covered roadways, and prepare for sudden downpours. With calm winds and high humidity, fog may also form overnight, further complicating travel conditions.

The unsettled pattern is expected to linger into Tuesday, with more widespread clearing likely by midweek. Additional watches or advisories could be issued if flooding becomes more likely.
