Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh reports that a light wintry mix will affect northern and north-central North Carolina late Thursday night through Friday morning, bringing the potential for minor snow accumulations and slick travel conditions during the early commute.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of the northern Piedmont and Virginia border counties, including areas near Greensboro, Roxboro, and Henderson. Confidence in the forecast remains high, though snow totals have trended slightly lower, with most locations expecting a coating to one inch, mainly near and north of Interstate 85.

According to NWS forecasters, wet snow will begin overnight and change to light rain or drizzle by late morning, with a brief period of freezing rain possible between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., particularly along the VA border. Impacts should be localized and limited.

Bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads could become slippery early Friday, though improving conditions are expected by midday as temperatures rise. Some isolated black ice may redevelop Friday evening where slush remains.

Motorists are urged to use caution on untreated roads, allow extra travel time, and stay informed on weather and traffic updates.
