Asheville, NC – A Winter Weather and Wind Advisory remains in effect for the North Carolina mountains, particularly along the border with Tennessee, until 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg.

The advisory highlights the potential for less than 1 inch of additional snowfall in lower elevations, with higher elevations expected to accumulate 1 to 3 inches. Isolated peaks could see an additional 3 to 4 inches. Wind gusts are forecast to reach 35 to 45 mph, with some areas briefly experiencing gusts near 50 mph.

Driving conditions are expected to remain hazardous on untreated roads, with icy spots possible through Saturday morning. However, the NWS noted that warmer temperatures on Saturday may improve road conditions, though black ice could reform in shaded or untreated areas Saturday night.

Residents and travelers in the advisory areas are urged to exercise caution, particularly in high elevations, and stay updated on changing weather conditions.
