Wilmington, NC – A chilly forecast brings temperatures into the low 20s across Wilmington tonight, following a sunny but brisk day. Residents should prepare for calm conditions and clear skies, but bundle up for significantly colder nights.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a dry cold front passing through this morning has left the area colder than usual for mid-January. Daytime highs on Thursday will reach 41°F, accompanied by light northwest winds of 7 to 10 mph. Wind gusts may briefly hit 18 mph, though winds are expected to calm by nightfall.
Looking ahead, Thursday night will remain clear with lows hovering around 22°F. Friday brings slightly warmer temperatures, peaking at 52°F under sunny skies. However, rain chances increase this weekend as a weather system moves in on Saturday afternoon, bringing an 80% chance of showers. Temperatures will rise to 59°F on Saturday but dip to 46°F overnight.
For commuters, cold mornings could mean frosty windshields, so plan extra time for your Thursday drive. Motorists traveling on major routes such as U.S. Highway 17 or Interstate 40 should also monitor weather updates for Saturday’s potential rain.
By Sunday, showers will taper off, leaving mostly cloudy skies and a high near 61°F. Next week starts cooler, with highs in the mid-40s on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Residents are advised to dress warmly at night as lows dip to 20°F.
