Wilmington, North Carolina – Thunderstorms will develop across eastern North Carolina Saturday afternoon, bringing heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and a risk for travel disruptions along I-40 and U.S. 17 by 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, showers and storms are likely Saturday afternoon through Tuesday, with highs near 92°F and heat index values topping 103°F Saturday. A southwest breeze at 3 to 6 mph will offer little relief from the heat.

On Saturday and Sunday, localized storms may produce rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch, though some areas could see more under strong cells. Expect storm chances to climb again Monday afternoon, with a 60% likelihood of storms developing after 2 p.m.

Residents should plan outdoor activities for the morning hours and remain weather-aware throughout the weekend. If thunder roars, head indoors immediately. Drivers on I-40, U.S. 74, and NC-132 should watch for ponding on roads and sudden downpours.

Looking ahead, Wilmington will stay locked in a stormy pattern through Tuesday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s with mostly cloudy skies and storms possible each day. Lows will hover in the mid-70s.

Showers and thunderstorms remain likely through Tuesday night. Stay updated via NWS alerts and prepare for weather-related slowdowns into midweek.
