Raleigh, North Carolina – Triple-digit heat returns to central North Carolina Thursday as dangerous heat indices climb past 105° across Wake County, with thunderstorms adding to the risk.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, covering much of the Triangle. Temperatures in Raleigh are expected to peak at 96°F Thursday afternoon, with a heat index that may feel closer to 106°F. South winds and high humidity will make conditions feel sweltering, especially along I-40, US-401, and downtown areas.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. Thursday, potentially disrupting afternoon commutes. While rainfall totals should remain low, localized downpours and frequent lightning could impact drivers and outdoor events. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activities, hydrate regularly, and check on elderly neighbors and pets.
Friday continues the pattern, with a high near 95°F and another chance for afternoon storms. Nighttime temperatures will offer little relief, with lows around 74°F and humid conditions persisting.
The weekend sees some improvement: Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs near 96°F, but storm chances return Sunday night into early next week.
