Raleigh, North Carolina – North Carolina faces a brutal blast of summer heat Tuesday as temperatures near 102°F and heat index values reach a sweltering 109°F across Raleigh and surrounding counties. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch effective Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening, warning that high humidity and soaring temperatures could trigger heat-related illnesses if precautions aren’t taken.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed immediately by the Extreme Heat Watch. Counties along the I-40 corridor, including Wake, Durham, Johnston, and Orange, are at highest risk for hazardous heat, with dangerously high humidity compounding the effects. Outdoor laborers, children, and seniors are especially vulnerable.

Health officials advise limiting outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., drinking water frequently, and checking on neighbors without air conditioning. Car interiors can reach deadly temperatures in minutes — do not leave children or pets unattended under any circumstances.

Tuesday will bring clear skies and calm winds, offering no relief. Storm chances return Tuesday night into Wednesday, but only a slight chance exists before stronger storms develop late Wednesday afternoon.

⚠️ What’s Next: The heat threat lingers through Wednesday. More advisories may be issued if temperatures hold or increase. Residents should monitor updates via local weather apps and media.
