Raleigh, North Carolina – Extreme heat continues to grip central North Carolina as an Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values reaching up to 110°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, dangerously high temperatures and humidity will persist across the eastern Piedmont and Coastal Plain. Cities impacted include Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Fayetteville, with peak heat expected between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday. Air conditioning, hydration, and shade are essential. Limit outdoor activities, especially for children, older adults, and those with health conditions.

Residents in Wake, Orange, Johnston, and Cumberland Counties should take extra care. Avoid leaving children or pets in cars. Power grids may also be strained—consider charging devices early and conserving energy during peak hours.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible late Wednesday afternoon and evening, offering brief relief but increasing the chance of localized flooding or lightning. Rain chances rise to 40% Wednesday night.
