Morehead City, N.C. – Eastern North Carolina kicks off the first day of summer with warm, breezy weather and a chance for isolated thunderstorms along the coast Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, temperatures will climb into the mid-to-upper 80s inland and top out near 85° along the beaches. While a cold front cleared out last night’s storm activity, the shift in wind patterns may trigger spotty Seabreeze storms, especially after 2 p.m.
Communities including Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, and Emerald Isle could experience brief downpours or lightning later today. While severe weather is not expected, beachgoers and boaters should remain alert, particularly between 2–6 p.m. when storm chances are highest. Winds will remain light, but sudden gusts are possible near any storms.
Residents planning outdoor activities should stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and have quick access to shelter in case of thunder. Today’s pattern is typical for early summer along the North Carolina coast, with daily pop-up storm chances returning through the weekend.
Storm chances may increase slightly Saturday with humid conditions persisting. More updates are expected by Friday evening.
