CHARLOTTE, NC – A calm, cool morning blankets the Carolinas, the kind that teases warmth by day and chills by dusk. The air feels still and fresh — for now. But as the weekend unfolds, a sharp shift is brewing, bringing scattered showers, gusty breezes, and a dramatic temperature plunge by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the region will enjoy mostly sunny skies and highs near 70°F through Saturday. Southwesterly winds will usher in mild, almost springlike air, setting up a pleasant start to the weekend. However, clouds will increase late Saturday as a weak front approaches from the west, bringing a chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms — particularly along I-85 from Gaffney to Gastonia and into the Charlotte metro area.

Sunday stays warm, with highs in the mid-70s and lingering spotty showers by afternoon. But the real story comes after sunset. A strong push of Arctic air will surge southward, sending temperatures plummeting nearly 30 degrees by early Monday. Lows could reach the upper 20s to low 30s, cold enough to trigger the first widespread hard freeze of the season across both Carolinas.

Residents should take precautions now — cover tender plants, drain outdoor hoses, and prepare for frosty commutes early next week. The freeze could officially mark the end of the growing season in much of the Piedmont.

After the chill sets in, Veterans Day turns crisp but sunny, with highs rebounding into the 40s and 50s — a clear sign that winter’s early edge is settling in across the Southeast.
