South Carolina – Wind sweeps across the Piedmont and Upstate this morning, rattling windows and bending bare trees as colder air pours in behind a passing system. The breeze feels sharp, steady, and persistent, making even short walks outdoors uncomfortable.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. this evening for Upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina, and parts of northeast Georgia. Northwest winds increase to 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 46 mph at times, especially in exposed areas and higher elevations.

In Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson counties, unsecured objects may shift or topple. Tree limbs could come down sporadically, and a few isolated power outages remain possible. Drivers along I-85, I-26, and I-385 should prepare for sudden crosswinds, particularly during the afternoon when gusts peak. High-profile vehicles, including trucks and SUVs, face the greatest handling challenges.

Across the Charlotte metro, conditions remain breezy through midday. Gusts near 30 mph combine with cooler temperatures, keeping wind chills in the 20s and 30s despite sunshine. Visibility stays clear, but debris blown onto roadways may appear quickly.

Winds gradually ease after sunset as high pressure settles in. Tonight turns mostly clear and colder, with lows near 22 degrees in Charlotte and the mid-20s across the Upstate. Sunday stays dry with lighter winds, though clouds increase late.

Looking ahead, a noticeable warming trend builds early next week. Monday brings sunshine and highs near 50. By Tuesday, temperatures climb into the 60s, signaling a February thaw. Midweek rain chances return, but no widespread hazards are expected at this time.

Secure loose items today, allow extra travel time, and use caution on open roadways. Experiencing strong gusts where you are? Share what conditions look like in your area.
