Charlotte, NC – Morning fog hangs low across the Piedmont, softening the skyline and leaving damp streaks on windshields before dawn. The chill in the air feels different today—crisper, cleaner—as the Carolinas ease into the final stretch of October and prepare for a cooler turn ahead.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, clouds clear gradually through the day as west winds pick up to around 15 mph, gusting at times near 25 mph. Afternoon highs reach the lower 60s, setting up a run of sunny, dry weather that stretches through the weekend.

By Friday night, calm winds and clear skies could allow the season’s first frost to form in outlying suburbs and valleys, especially north of I-85 and across foothill communities. Temperatures are expected to dip to the upper 30s, with isolated pockets dropping closer to freezing. Sensitive plants and late-season gardens should be covered or brought indoors by dusk Friday.

Saturday and Sunday stay bright and seasonable, with highs in the low-to-mid 60s and light breezes. The start of November looks mild but increasingly variable—models hint at a possible cold snap mid-month, with a stronger push of winter air reaching the southern Appalachians by November 10–15.

For now, fall’s best stretch continues across the Carolinas—sunny, calm, and cool—but winter’s first touch may be only a few frosty mornings away.
