North Carolina – A mild springlike breeze moves through Charlotte this morning while thin fog drifts across low spots and open fields. Temperatures are already near 64°F, setting the stage for a warm and active stretch of weather.

Patchy fog developed across parts of the Charlotte metro area early this morning. Visibility briefly dropped in spots along I-77, I-85, and Independence Boulevard, though conditions improve quickly as the sun climbs.

Skies gradually brighten through late morning. Sunshine breaks through clouds and temperatures climb toward 79°F, one of the warmest March days so far this season.

However, the calm start will not last. Meteorologists are tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to develop later tonight as a system pushes across the Carolinas.

Rain chances increase late tonight and into early Sunday. Some storms may bring brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Severe weather appears limited for now, but drivers should still prepare for slick roads and sudden downpours.

Expect wet pavement and slower traffic along I-485 and I-277 if storms move across the Charlotte metro area during the overnight hours. Plan extra travel time if heading out late tonight or early Sunday.

Rain continues at times through Sunday before gradually easing later in the day.

Looking ahead, warmer spring air builds across the Southeast early next week. Highs climb back near 79°F Monday, then reach 82°F Tuesday with a mix of sun and clouds.

Another important seasonal change arrives early Sunday morning. Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m., pushing clocks forward one hour and bringing longer daylight evenings.

Meteorologists say this warming trend could continue through midweek, with temperatures approaching the mid-80s by Wednesday.
