Greenville, SC – Smoke from multiple wildfires is pushing air quality to unhealthy levels across parts of western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, an Air Quality Alert is in effect through midnight Monday for counties in western North Carolina, and from 8 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday for counties in Upstate South Carolina. The advisory warns that fine particulate levels from wildfire smoke may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, especially for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues.

The smoke originates from the Table Rock Wildfire in South Carolina and Black Cove and Deep Woods wildfires in North Carolina. Winds from the northwest are expected to spread smoke southward, especially into areas from Pumpkintown to Travelers Rest and Landrum, with heavier impacts possible along that corridor.

Residents in Brevard, Forest City, Greenville, and Spartanburg are advised to limit outdoor activity, especially in the morning hours when particulate levels may be highest. Use air purifiers indoors if available and keep windows closed.

Officials recommend checking weather.gov/gsp for updates and air quality conditions.
