Morehead City, N.C. – Severe storms could impact eastern North Carolina late Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing a chance of damaging winds and a low-end tornado threat.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, multiple rounds of isolated to scattered storms will develop Tuesday night, primarily west of Highway 17. The threat expands across all of eastern North Carolina (ENC) by Wednesday. The strongest storms may produce gusty winds and the potential for an isolated tornado.
Cities including Greenville, Kinston, New Bern, and Morehead City are in a marginal risk zone for severe weather, with coastal areas like Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout also in the path of possible thunderstorms. Travel disruptions are possible due to downed branches or localized flooding during heavy rain bursts.
Residents are urged to review severe weather plans and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather radios or mobile alerts, especially overnight when storms may strike.
This low-end severe threat lingers through Wednesday, with additional updates likely as storm timing and intensity evolve.
