Wilmington, NC – Snowfall across southeast North Carolina is tapering off, but icy roads remain a hazard this morning, especially along I-95 and near Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Whiteville. Residents are urged to use caution during their commute as freezing temperatures continue to impact road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 a.m., with a Cold Weather Advisory lasting until 11 a.m. Accumulated snow and low temperatures are expected to keep roads slick, particularly in shaded areas. Authorities have advised carrying emergency supplies, including flashlights and water, if travel is unavoidable.

Temperatures today will remain frigid, with highs near 33°F and wind chills as low as 10°F. Snow is expected to diminish completely by mid-morning, but freezing conditions will return overnight, dropping temperatures to around 16°F.

Looking ahead, Thursday brings a chance of rain late in the afternoon with highs near 38°F. Sunny conditions are expected Friday and Saturday, with temperatures gradually warming to the mid-40s. Despite the improving weather, nighttime lows will stay below freezing, keeping black ice a potential hazard through the week.

Commuters are encouraged to monitor local conditions and avoid unnecessary travel until roads are fully cleared. For updates, visit weather.gov or call local 511 services for road status reports.
