Raleigh, NC – North Carolina is bracing for significant impacts as Tropical Storm Debby makes its approach toward the Carolinas. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has issued a warning for heavy rainfall, flooding, and potential tornadoes starting late Thursday through Friday.

According to the NWS, a slight westward shift in Debby’s track is expected to bring the storm directly across central North Carolina. Winds of 25 to 40 mph are anticipated, primarily affecting the Sandhills and Coastal Plain areas. However, the main concern remains widespread rainfall. Predictions indicate that central North Carolina could receive up to 10 inches of rain, leading to extensive flash flooding and river overflow.

The NWS has highlighted that the most severe weather is expected tonight, with conditions worsening into early Friday morning. Residents are advised to prepare for dangerous travel conditions, especially at night, when flooding risks are at their peak. The I-95 corridor is expected to be particularly affected, with isolated tornadoes possible east of the storm’s track.

As Debby continues to move inland, the threat of flooding will persist into Friday, tapering off by the weekend. The NWS urges everyone in affected areas to stay informed and heed local warnings to ensure their safety during this period of severe weather.
